Updating for Memorial Day 2017

"Kasserine Pass"

This is definitely not your typical DA fare - and realize this will probably not do well on this kind of art site - but posting anyway.

This is my tribute to the US Servicemen from every generation.

God Bless You and THANK YOU FOR YOUR SERVICE! You are real heroes!

collaboration between myself and Ian David Soar (possible cover art)
i did another one with this same marine called "When Johnny Comes Marching Home" but haven't posted yet....

In his mind's eye during this battle - he pictures home -- what a better sight than the Empire State Building in the distance. Anyway - just my take. lol
A break in gothic women... hahahaaha

dedicated to all servicemen -- but especially to those, like my grandfather, who served so proudly in WWII.

The Battle of the Kasserine Pass was a battle that took place during the Tunisia Campaign of World War II in February 1943. It was a series of battles fought around Kasserine Pass, a 2 mi (3.2 km) wide gap in the Grand Dorsal chain of the Atlas Mountains in west central Tunisia. The Axis forces involved were primarily from the German-Italian Panzer Army (the redesignated German Panzer Army Africa) led by Field Marshal Erwin Rommel and two Panzer divisions attached from the 5th Panzer Army. The Allied forces involved came mostly from the U.S Army′s II Corps commanded by Major General Lloyd Fredendall, which was part of the British 1st Army commanded by Lieutenant-General Kenneth Anderson.
Significant as the first large-scale meeting of American and German forces in World War II, the untested and poorly-led American troops suffered heavy casualties and were pushed back over 50 mi (80 km) from their positions west of Faid Pass in a rout. In the aftermath, the U.S. Army instituted sweeping changes from unit-level organization to the replacing of commanders. When they next met, in some cases only weeks later, the U.S. forces were considerably more effective.

Dude that's great. My grandfather, too, served in WWII. I remember him saying that he was a foot solider and he watched a lot of people die. But I'm glad you made this. I know few who make pictures dedicated to people in the army, navy, air force, etc.
Stuff like this reminds me of my grandfather.

Even though I'm against war in general, I'm completally at a loss for words when it comes to how thankful I am for our troops. They do a job that is, unfortunatly, neccesary in this world, and I'm so grateful to them for their sacrifices.
This is a fantastic picture!

I'd really like to draw this; but only if it's okay with you. I love dedications to the troops, and I know quite a few. Their so amazing; I could never imagine being a soldier, but I wish I had the courage they have. I'll keep them all in my prayers.

I like the flag in the sky, I like that he's wearing WW2 garb. Like you said; but I can see people not seeing this. A warrior not thinking of home, but going to battle. It's still a great pic!

it's the end of the battle - and often times, when in battle - soldiers do think of home -- that's what they told me first hand.... your mind goes a lot of places when you might die....

Agreed. What I was trying to "hint to you" (please, I love the pic, and I'm not trying to hate on you.) was that PEOPLE DON'T LOOK! When I first glanced at the pic all I saw was a soldier. The skyline(over the city) is "darkish" suggesting a confrontation. After reading what you said, (about coming home) I got your meaning; It made me take a 3rd or 4th look at your pic.

A wonderful tribute. I am so grateful to everyone who has served. I've told my kids to be kind and respectful to elderly people because 1. It is the right thing to do and 2. That old man may have been fighting for your freedom or the freedom of others overseas. :flagus:
